Yesterday was the biggest meet-up I've ever been to ♥ I had a wonderful time setting up (soo early) with Tiffany and an even better time enjoying the yummy treats with everyone! I'm so happy that there was such a great turn out!

The day started out with an intimate tea party plus games and an old home/tea shop, followed by a trip to the State Capital and an art museum garden for photos. Lastly, a few of us cooled off at a cafe for drinks.

P.S. Tiffany's car said it was 106-108 degrees F that day ;A:
The shipping was very fast, especially since it came from Hong Kong! The mook itself is a bit thin but I really like the print library and snaps from various BABY events. One more point that I would like to add (that wasn't covered in the review link I posted previously) is that the page the bag is attached to (well, the plastic wrap) is intended to be cut out! That means when I peel off the plastic bag (and inevetiable peel off some of the paper on the page) there is no damage to any of the mook content! The opposite side of the page is a solid print that could be great for crafty things ♥

The bag itself is tiny, I could fit my android, some loose cash and a lip gloss and keys. I'm actually not bothered by this because for one it was a great price and two I'd rather carry a much smaller bag with only essentials if I run out for a quick errand or just want to pack light. The material is pretty standard Lolita faux-leather as well. I don't own any other BABY bags but the material is comparable to Innocent World's "leather". The simple design makes it easy to coordinate with both Lolita and non Lolita outfits as well ♥

I've been a big fan of Midori Fukasawa's work in the Gothic & Lolita Bibles. When I saw this photo of her on Tumblr I was very intrigued by the book she was holding. After a bit of research, I learned that she has released a personal fashion & style book (very a la Misako Aoki).

Her book "Doll Classica" is currently avaliable for 1286 yen or about $16 on Cd Japan (hurry though, there are only 4 remaining copies as of now)!

Youtube channel Kawaii Girl Japan also featured footage from a special tea part that Midori hosted celebrating the release of her book. Please check it out! I can't wait till mine arrives, I'm really looking forward to seeing her style and personal like (major creepin) c:

(Although I ended up purchasing a copy through YesAsia). BABY has recently released their first ever mook, which includes hair and makeup ideas, coordinates and a detailed print catalog. Even better, it includes a cute (tiny) black hear pochette ♥ All for the very reasonable price of 1400 yen, or about $16. I'm still waiting on mine to arrive in the mail, but a lovely EGL member (who likely lives in Japan or somewhere that carries the mook locally) posted a review. I promise to add my photos and thoughts when it arrives!

Unfortunately, due to the high demand of this item, both websites I found that stocked the mook are currently sold out :( I heard Amazon Japan may carry it, or you next best bet would be a shopping service.

I think it's really great that baby is releasing this mook, especially since it includes a very affordable accessory (like most Japanese mooks and magazines). I really wish American magazines would include presents more often. I know while I was in Japan, those free trinkets on magazines and food products really suckered me in! XD

They're here! They're her!

Yesterday my wing shoes finally arrived! After months of searching and wishing, I finally found an Ebay company that made shoes based off of the Vivienne Westwood design in my size! I'm not one to actively search out replicas of things, but I knew that I would never be able to find, afford let alone fit into the originals. I feel more of leniency for shoe replicas (well, at least in my case) because most shoes are not avaliable in larger sizes. Being a women's US shoe size 11, I have a hard enough time finding shoes as if. There are plenty of shoes I would buy in a heartbeat, but simply are not made in my size. And not amount of diet or exercise is ever going to make my foot smaller! Long story short, I'm happy with my shoes (and I wish I had smaller feet, I would really love some platform converse). You know it's bad when they don't even make replica shoes in your size.

Now onto a short review. I ordered the shoes from eshoehouse2010 on ebay on May 23rd and they arrive in my mail box yesterday. They were $39.99 with free shipping. They are also avaliable in red and brown, sizes US6/UK3/AU5.5/EU36/23CM through US11/UK9/AU11/EU42/26CM. They fit true to size with virtually no extra room/length. They arrived individually wrapped in this cardboard box and plastic bag.

Though there was a big dent on the box, the shoes were fine and avoided any scratches with the fabric bags.

The shoe themselves had a strong "new shoe"/fake leather plastic smell upon arrival but quickly aired out. I am unsure as to how sturdy the fake leather is, so I am being gentle with them. The ankle strap/wigs have a velcro closure. i have to strap the fairly tightly to avoid a big of a heel "lag" when I pick up my foot, but I think I've got it down. The platform is also manageable; about 5cm/2 inches.

Overall I think they are good for the price, but I need to see how sturdy they are. While I would rather have the original design, I'm just happy to finally have a very similar pair!
I'm happy that with finals, AP tests and graduation
over now I finally have the time to update. The monthly posts will be up
shortly as well ♥ I'll start off with a quick recap of what has been
going on in my life, mostly in photos.

Quick notes:

I graduated high school and enrolled in college! Whoo!

I got a job with two of my friends to paint a mural for a business this summer ($$$)

I took photos for our student charity fashion show

I painted a commission for one of my teachers of Ronald Reagan. That was fun.

I designed a lot of the art for and was featured (a lot) in my school's literary/art magazine/book

After about a week of decent skin, i had a horrible breakout and
I'm yet again on my crusade for decent/better skin (more in another post
to come)

I did a lot of online shopping (Ebay) hehe :)

My boyfriend is back from college and was accepted as a transfer
student to the college he really wants to go to! ♥ I also get to spend a
lot of time with him now ♥♥♥

I went to IKEA for the first time *A*

Especially when I spotted these beauties from the Etsy store Necrosarium. There were a steal too at $9.50 plus free shipping! I'm a bit hesitant to even disclose this shop it's so wonderful. Well I guess the secret is out ^_^ She updates (and sells out) often so check back frequently for new items ♥

Here's the earrings I bought:

They have lovely detaining, a realistic antiqued bronze color and are a comfortable weight

There are even details on the back:

My hand for size reference:

I think they will work very well with a variety of styles from classic and gothic lolita to dolly-kei and cult party styles c:

Didn't get enough of Black Swan? Well good new! They're baaack:

Now you too can create white and black swan inspired outfits! Nothing says sophisticated Lolita like feathers sprouting from your cranium. Is anyone else imagining Big Bird in Lolita right now? I though so. My main problem with this item is that it doesn't look up to BABY's standards (or worth over 5,000 yen). It looks like craft feathers, cheap pearl strands and plastic roses glued onto a head band. I'm not sure if one could make this look more elegant or expensive, but if you do, please tell BABY.

Firstly, here are some worn photos of my fawn beret. It poofs out kind of funny at different areas (due to the quality and stiffness of the fabric, I think) but as long as I wear it the "right way" I think it looks fine. It's lined with a natural beige muslin and the pompom is detachable. The elastic was the hardest part of the construction, I tried really hard not to make it look like a shower cap! It's not a terribly big/deep hat, but it stays on my head without trouble c:

I haven't worn this out yet because I'm not happy with how the sleeves "poof" My arm doesn't stretch much of the elastic but the sleeve still creates this sill looking vertical poof that makes me shoulders look twice as big. I think I'm going to find a was to sew in a few darts to make it poof less. I do not like poofy sleeves u_u I sold my black blouse because the sleeves were too poofy! The Innocent World blouse i wore today is even almost too borderline poofy for me, but I still love it ♥ Although I do wish the detachable sleeves were a bit longer.

First off, I finished my fawn beret! I promise a worn coordinate or photo soon :)

The material is recycled fur from a toddler's jacket, muslin lining, blue satin (+ elastic). I also made a quick detachable pearl bow accessory. Not my prettiest sewing job but not bad for getting back in the swing of machine sewing. Plus the fur hides most of my mistakes ♥

Next, I made a lace choker based off this design by Innocent World

Eek! It's already a week in to March! Please forgive me and enjoy these tips ♥

Tie a vintage silk scarf around your shoulders like a collar - this looks cute with jsks!

Looking for some major eye candy? check out the FLASCO shop blog

Make a mood board of things you're looking forward to this spring or summer. Include photos, soft ribbons, dried flowers and anything else that reminds you of the season. Hang the board somewhere you will see it often

Bloomers are a pretty easy sewing project - try making your own with lots of soft cotton lace and ribbon trim

Alternatively, try making a cute scrunchie - use your own fabric or "extra" brand fabric from inexpensive mini-tote bags

These were a hit at my school!

Ingredients:
2 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
2/3 cup sugar
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 or 1 1/2 tbsp. dried culinary lavender

1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Line 2-3 cookie sheets with parchment paper (un-greased).

2. Beat the butter and sugar on medium speed for 5-10 minutes, until the mixture becomes light in color and fluffy.

3. Fold in the flour by hand. The dough will be soft and a bit crumbly. You can pack the dough together when you cut out your cookies.

4. Place a handful of the dough at a time on a lightly floured work surface. Use a floured rolling pin to press out the dough to about 3/8 inch thick. Do not use a lot of flour or your cookies will be tough and very crumbly. Short breads are known for being light and fluffy ♥

5. Cut out the short bread using any shape cookie cutter you like. With a spatula, transfer them to the prepared pans, spacing them about 1 1/2 inches apart (they will not spread, but they do puff a little).

6. Bake for 15-20 minutes until they are just a very pale golden color. Slide the papers from the pans onto wire racks. Store the cooled cookies between sheets of parchment or wax paper in an air-tight container.

7. Brew up a mug of tea and enjoy your treats! The flavor may not be very intense, but provides a floral aftertaste. You may want to consider grinding up the florets next time if you want to experiment with the intensity of the lavender.

I've scouring sales communities for years (and almost got it once, but the owner decided to sell it to her friend last minute last November :c ). Recently though, I was able to make a teeny tiny compromise. I found a square of fabric approximately 10x10" for $3.50 shipped on an old EGL sales post! I decided there wasn't much to loose and bought the fabric scrap. Well, the point of this post is to show off the but pouch I made with it today! I's about 8" long and has a pink satin lining. Not bad work for being rusty on the sewing machine (we have a nice one at school I get to use now) :)
In hopes that you will forgive me, I'd like to share a few things that have been going on in my life.

Firstly, I got accepted to a few colleges and universities! Five to be precise. I applied to:

The Cleveland Institute of Art (my top choice for Biomedical art)

Maryland Institute College of Art

St. Edward's University

The University of Texas at Austin

Texas State University at San Marcos

Kansas City Art Institute

Rhode Island School of Design (my reach)

Phew! I've heard back from the first five and currently maintain a spotless acceptance record :) I should hear back from KCAI and RISD sometime in March. Oh, and I'm also pretty ecstatic that I got a big juicy scholarship from Cleveland T___T Thank you Cleveland, college is within my reach!

While I sent all of my applications before Thanksgiving, I've been busy with follow up activities, financial aid stuff and sitting back waiting for letter c:

Speaking of all these art schools, I keep my Flickr pretty current, mostly with pieces for my AP Drawing portfolio for this year. Please check it out! I'm pretty excited that my painting is going to state UIL competition this year ♪ Wohoo!

In other news, in case you missed the earlier post, my label/online shop Milk Thistle is now in business! I plan to add more items soon ♥

Also, look forward very shortly for a yummy lavender shortbread cookie recipe and some crafting and shopping updates ♫

Also, would anyone be interested in any new types of posts, such as photo inspiration or brand spotlights? Are there any post series that I've neglected? I would really appreciate your input!
